the album serendipity

12 original tracks written, recorded and produced by Mike Barker.

The album came about by chance, hence the title.  I had made a number of recordings and shared some of them with Mark Bassey, the excellent tutor at some jazz workshops I had been attending.  Mark commented that I would soon have enough tracks for an album.  That planted the idea. I then started a project to complete recordings of twelve original pieces, a mix of vocals and instrumental tracks, mostly in a light jazz style with some latin influences.

about me

A guitar player with a love of melodic music.  When my contempories were listening to Pop and Rock music, I was listening to Instrumental and Big Band recordings.

I have been involved with a variety of music styles, including Folk Rock and a spell playing in a Pop/Rock  covers band.  I particularly enjoy smooth jazz and tunes from the American Songbook.

composition & collaboration

In addition to playing jazz/melodic music, my other interest is writing and recording original songs/instrumentals.

Whilst the album Seredipity is a mix of instrumentals and vocals in a light jazz style.  I also write music in other styles, folk, rock and instrumental.  I enjoy working by myself on new compositions, but also enjoy collaborating with others both in the composition and recording/production of original music.
